LunaFinder: Turning a Small Tool Into a Product
$200 total revenue · 3 months to launch · Solo founder
Razvan Muntian started LunaFinder as a small tool for himself.
He had a problem finding the right photos to use on social media. He built a small tool to solve it then started thinking about turning it into a real product.
What is LunaFinder?
LunaFinder is an AI photo manager for macOS.
It is designed as a simple privacy focused photo explorer for photographers, creators and social media managers.
The product is positioned as a Lightroom alternative with a one-time price.
Building the Product
The original idea was very simple.
Razvan was trying to solve his own problem with finding photos he could use for social media.
He built the first version as a small personal tool.
After adding a few features he started getting attention from other people. One of those people eventually became his first customer.
The product took about 3 months to launch.
Getting the First Customer
The first customer came through social media.
After Razvan added a couple of features more people started paying attention to the product. Eventually one person decided it was time to buy it.
User feedback also influenced the product.
People asked for AI features so Razvan added them.
The Numbers
Razvan is still figuring out which acquisition channels will work best.
So far X (Twitter) has brought the most attention but he says it is too early to draw conclusions about conversion.
The Biggest Mistake
The biggest mistake was not talking about the product enough.
Razvan also says he didn't prioritize content creation enough.
"Probably not talking enough about it and not prioritizing content creation."
LunaFinder is still growing and the next challenge is finding more reliable ways to get customers.
