Pre-launch · Solo founder · OSS customer feedback platform

Jean Daly is building Featul, a customer feedback platform for teams that want to stop losing feedback across chats, emails, and spreadsheets.

The idea is simple: give teams one place to collect requests, let users vote on them, organize a roadmap, then share updates through changelogs.

What is Featul?

Featul helps teams understand what their users need, prioritize improvements, and keep everyone updated.

The core product includes:

Customer feedback collection

Feature requests

Voting

Roadmaps

Changelogs

Public feedback boards

Onboarding

Building the MVP

Jean focused first on the core feedback loop.

The product is still being refined before launch, with work focused on the workspace, public feedback boards, onboarding, and design.

One thing that took more time than expected was getting the design right.

Some early UI designs didn't feel consistent with the product, so Jean simplified and reworked them.

"Small design and usability decisions take more time than you expect."

The Numbers

Featul is still pre-launch, so there are no customer or revenue numbers yet.

Getting the First Customers

Jean hasn't launched Featul yet, so the first customer is still ahead.

The plan after launch is to focus on early adopters, learn from their feedback, then grow from there.

Jean has considered channels including SEO, Reddit, X, Product Hunt, cold outreach, paid ads, communities, and word of mouth.

There are no results from these channels yet.

What Worked

It's too early to talk about customer growth.

So far, the main focus has been getting the core feedback workflow right before adding more features.

What Didn't Work

Some early UI designs weren't consistent with the product.

Jean simplified them and reworked the design.

The bigger risk is spending too much time polishing before getting the product into users' hands.

The Timeline

Featul is still pre-launch, so there are no exact dates or revenue milestones yet.

Started building

Built the core feedback collection and request management features.

Next

Added voting, roadmaps, and changelogs.

After that

Refined the workspace, public feedback boards, onboarding, and design.

Now

Preparing for launch.

What I'd Do Differently

If starting again, Jean would define a smaller launch scope, establish the design foundations earlier, and get the product in front of potential users sooner.

The biggest lesson so far is that design and usability decisions can take much longer than expected.

"A clear, consistent design system would have saved a lot of rework."

What's Next?

Featul is still at the beginning.

The goal is to make collecting feedback, deciding what to build, and keeping users informed simpler for small teams.

The first customer hasn't arrived yet. The product isn't finished yet. That's the story so far.
